Eryngium Miss Willmotts Ghost Seeds
11 August 2011 Plant Me Now
Named for Miss Ellen Willmott, 1853 - 1934, who loved the plant so much she dropped seeds of it wherever she went. This dramatic varierty produces ornate cones with collars of prickly bracts. A hardy glabrous perennial. Eryngium E. giganteum Umbelliferae. A cosmopolitan species with a widespread natural habitat. The candied roots called 'eringoes' were thought to be an aphrodisiac. The genus name derives from the Greek for 'a prickly plant'.
