This smoke alarm uses 'Optical' technology which detects large smoke particles given off by slow smouldering fires similar to those you would find on soft furnishings and fabics. Unlike tts 'Ionisation' counterpart the 'Optical' smoke alarm does not contain any radioactive material and operates using a narrow beam of light, if this beam is broken twice is a certain time period the smoke alarm sounds its 85dB(A) sounder and also those connected to the same circuit, which will alert someone to the issue. Another benefit of this smoke alarm is that it uses Lithium batteries which are designed to last for 10+ years and can work for up to 6 months without a mains connection once fully charged. You are also able to interconnect up to 12 smoke and heat alarm and use test, hush and locate switches to create a BS5839 compliant fire detection system.
